Impact of the Implementation of Technology in the Agricultural Holdings of the Northern Region of Jalisco

Abstract

In order to determine the perception that the producers themselves have about the impact that technology has on the productivity of farms by type of producer, in the Northern Region of Jalisco, this exploratory and explanatory work was developed, and analyzed by means of a chi square test by type of producer and municipality. For this, 30 producers were randomly selected in each of the selected municipalities: Bolaños, Mezquitic and Villa Guerrero; selected because they belonged to one of three strata identified: small, medium and large. The results indicate that 50% of these producers currently have at least one technological tool, that 60% are unaware of the importance of technology and only 60% would be willing to adopt new technology, in addition to the fact up to 80% said they had not had advice or technical training in the past three years. Producers with current technology on their farms reported an increase of 5% to 20% in their production, depending on the administrative practices present on their farms. The study showed that it is essential to establish permanent strategies of technical assistance mainly aimed at small and mediums-sized producers.
