Desarrollo del pensamiento crítico mediante el análisis contextualizado de sistemas de colas en estudiantes de ingeniería

The teaching of queueing theory often represents a challenge for students due to the abstract and mathematical nature of the models employed. In response to this, a contextualized teaching strategy is proposed through the analysis of real-life systems.
The proposal was applied to 40 higher education students enrolled in the Operations Research course. The students were required to analyze a queueing system in which they could actively participate, carrying out real data collection, calculating operational indicators, and critically evaluating service performance. In applicable cases, they also developed well-founded improvement proposals.
The results showed that 50% of the students improved their understanding of concepts associated with queueing theory, as well as their analytical, argumentative, and application skills.
It is concluded that contextualized learning promotes the understanding of complex engineering contents and strengthens the development of critical thinking.
